The Makita DGA900Z is a cordless 230mm angle grinder powered by two 18V LXT batteries running in series to deliver 36V output. It replaces a mains 230mm grinder on sites where trailing cables and extension leads are a safety risk or simply impractical. The brushless motor delivers a no-load speed of 6,000 rpm, which is standard for a 230mm disc and suitable for cutting concrete, stone, metal and large-diameter pipe.

Active Feedback Sensing Technology (AFT) monitors rotation speed and shuts the tool down if the disc binds or stalls suddenly. This is a significant safety feature on a 230mm grinder where kickback forces are substantial. Automatic Torque Drive Technology (ATDT) adjusts cutting speed in response to load, maintaining consistent performance through varying material density without the operator having to manage the trigger.

Soft start limits initial torque on power-up, an electronic current limiter protects the motor during sustained heavy cuts, and an electric brake stops the disc quickly when the trigger is released. The anti-restart function prevents unexpected start-up when a battery is inserted while the switch is engaged. Battery indicators on the tool body show remaining charge.

The ergonomic handle has a soft grip and the large switch lever includes a lock-off function. At 5.7kg bare, it is heavier than a 115mm or 125mm cordless grinder but comparable to mains 230mm alternatives. Accepts standard 230mm x 22.23mm bore discs up to 6.5mm thick.

Supplied as a bare unit. Batteries and charger sold separately. Compatible with all Makita 18V LXT batteries; BL1850B (5.0Ah) or BL1860B (6.0Ah) recommended for sustained cutting.
