Common questions about Siroflex sealants, silicones and foams
Neutral-cure silicones (like Siroflex LMN) cure without releasing acetic acid, making them almost odourless and safe for use on sensitive substrates such as PVCu, lead, natural stone and mirrors. Acetoxy silicones (like Siroflex GP) release a vinegar-like smell during curing and are best suited for glass, ceramics and non-porous surfaces. For glazing and PVCu work, always use neutral cure.
Siroflex silicones typically skin over within 10-20 minutes and achieve a full cure in 24-48 hours depending on joint depth, temperature and humidity. Deeper joints take longer to cure. For optimal results, apply at temperatures between 5°C and 35°C and avoid exposure to water during the first 24 hours.
Siroflex acrylic caulks are instantly paintable with most water-based and synthetic paints — they are designed specifically for decorating applications. Silicone sealants cannot be painted over as paint will not adhere to silicone surfaces. If you need a paintable seal, choose an acrylic caulk or the Siroflex Polyflex HM polyurethane sealant, which is also paintable once cured.
The standard Siroflex PU Expanding Foam is classified as B3 (normal combustibility). For fire-stopping applications, use Siroflex Flameguard B1 fire-retardant expanding foam, which is tested to NEN6069:1997 and conforms to B1-F30 according to DIN4102-1. Always check building regulations for specific fire-stopping requirements on your project.
