In 1924, Albrecht Schnizler and Julius Closs founded Schnizler GmbH in a former brewery in Nurtingen, Germany. Schnizler had already developed his first hand drill — the Metallbohrdreher (metal drill turner) — in 1923, which sold over 50,000 units worldwide. The brand name Metabo was derived from that original product in 1928, and the company has been engineering professional power tools at the same Nurtingen site for over 100 years.

Are older Metabo 18V batteries compatible with new LiHD tools?

Yes. All Metabo 18V batteries produced since 2009 are fully compatible with current Metabo 18V tools. However, for maximum performance from LiHD-rated tools, we recommend using LiHD battery packs (4.0Ah, 5.5Ah, 8.0Ah or 10.0Ah) as they deliver significantly more power and runtime than standard Li-ion packs. All batteries are also CAS-compatible with 45+ partner brands.
