Contact adhesives like Evo-Stik 528 bond immediately when two coated surfaces are pressed together, creating a high-strength instant bond. They are ideal for laminates, worktops and non-porous materials. PVA wood glue is a water-based adhesive that requires clamping while it dries and is best suited for porous materials like timber. Use contact adhesive when you need an immediate bond on non-porous surfaces, and PVA when you have time to clamp and are working with wood.
For standard ceramic wall tiles on plaster or plasterboard, Evo-Stik's ready-mixed wall tile adhesive is the simplest option. For floor tiles, porcelain, natural stone or exterior applications, use a cement-based flexible tile adhesive like the Rapid Set Floor & Wall range. In wet areas such as bathrooms and showers, choose a waterproof formulation and pair it with a mould-resistant grout.
Drying times vary by product. Evo-Stik Impact contact adhesive bonds immediately on contact after both surfaces have been coated and allowed to become touch-dry (typically 10-15 minutes). Rapid-set tile adhesives achieve initial set in approximately 2 hours and full cure within 24 hours. PVA wood glues typically require clamping for 1-2 hours with full strength reached after 24 hours. Always check the product technical data sheet for specific guidance.
