What batteries work with the Makita MR001GZ radio?

The MR001GZ is compatible with three Makita battery platforms: XGT (40V max), LXT (18V) and CXT (12V). This means any Makita cordless battery from 12V to 40V will power it. It also has an AC adaptor jack for mains power. It does NOT work with non-Makita batteries or older Makita NiMH batteries.

Is the MR001GZ waterproof?

It is showerproof, rated IP64. That means it withstands dust ingress and up to 5 minutes of rain exposure. It is NOT designed to be submerged or left out in prolonged heavy rain. The elastomer bumpers also provide impact protection rated to 1.0m drop height. For a site radio, this level of protection is standard and adequate for typical outdoor use.

Does the MR001GZ have DAB radio?

The specifications list FM (87.5-108MHz) and AM (522-1710kHz) reception. DAB is not mentioned in the standard spec sheet for this model. If DAB is important to you, check current availability as Makita has released DAB-capable models in their range. The MR001GZ focuses on FM/AM with auxiliary input.

How long does the radio play on a single battery?

Runtime varies significantly by battery size and volume level. On an 18V 5.0Ah battery at moderate volume, expect roughly 15-20 hours. Larger batteries (6.0Ah, 9.0Ah) extend this further. At maximum volume, runtime decreases. The radio draws far less power than a power tool so even smaller batteries last a full working day.

Can I connect my phone to the MR001GZ?

Yes, via the AUX-IN jack (3.5mm audio input). You will need your own 3.5mm audio cable as one is not included. This lets you play music from a phone, tablet or any device with a headphone output. There is no Bluetooth on this model.
