Makita BL1820 18V LXT 2.0Ah Compact Li-Ion Battery
The Makita BL1820 is the compact, lightweight option in the 18V LXT battery range. At just 0.35kg it is significantly lighter than the higher-capacity cells like the BL1850 or BL1860, making it the go-to choice when you need to keep tool weight down for overhead work, tight spaces or lighter-duty tasks where maximum runtime is less of a priority than comfort and manoeuvrability.
It is fully compatible with all Makita 18V LXT tools and charges from flat to full in approximately 18 minutes on the DC18RC rapid charger. May be supplied as BL1820 or BL1820B (with LED charge level indicator) depending on current stock.
Compact Form Factor
The BL1820 uses a shorter cell configuration than the full-size 18V batteries, reducing both the length and weight of any tool it is fitted to. This makes a noticeable difference on compact drills, impact drivers and multi-tools where balance and handling matter. It delivers up to 50% more runtime than the older BL1815 compact battery it replaced.
STAR Protection Computer Controls
The battery features Makita's STAR Protection system, providing real-time communication between battery and tool. The built-in memory chip monitors usage history and relays data to compatible chargers for optimised charge cycles. Protection covers overloading, over-discharging and overheating to extend both battery and tool lifespan.
Built for Site Use
The impact-resistant outer case and shock-absorbing inner liner protect against the drops and knocks that are inevitable on a working site. Sixteen contact terminals maintain a constant connection with the tool to prevent power loss or fluctuation, even under heavy vibration. The lithium-ion cells resist self-discharge, so the battery holds its charge reliably in storage between jobs.
Charge Times
The BL1820's low capacity means very fast charge times across the Makita charger range. On the DC18RC rapid charger, expect around 18 minutes from flat to full. On the DC18SD standard charger, charge time is approximately 42 minutes. It is also compatible with the DC18RD twin-port and DC18RA rapid chargers.
